Medtronic Chair in Neuroengineering

The team

Professor Ghezzi holds the Medtronic chair in Neuroingeneering. His laboratory represents a bridge among researches on material science, engineering, and life science, with the mission of exploring novel interfaces for light modulation of neurons. The primary exploitation of these technologies is represented by restoration of sight. In fact, the degeneration of the retinal outer nuclear layer represents one of the major causes of adult blindness in industrialized countries. Despite the enormous effort and advances in the clinical treatment of eye diseases, there is no established method to prevent or cure it. The lab's activity will combine engineering and biotechnological tool in order to provide novel solutions for photoreceptor restoration or replacement.
